The good news of Christmas is that God has come to dwell among us-come to the poor, the suffering, to those on the margins. A seismic event that signals that the old order has passed away. That a new reality has been established. That the current of history has been reversed, and that everything will be forever changed. The powers of death, war, violence and oppression have been defeated: The first have become last and the last have become first.

The creation of a canyon begins with the action of water upon the land. Over time, the water carves a channel and shapes the contour of the canyon. Eventually, however, the canyon affects the route of the water. How does this illustrate our relationship to God, and God's to us?
